The Hollywood Divas Are Back With a Plus One

Hollywood Divas

The cast members from TV One’s original television series, 'Hollywood Divas,' are back for a third season and they are bringing the fireworks after Independence Day.

Now, if you have been hiding under a rock, 'Hollywood Divas,' is TV One’s latest reality series starring Golden Brooks (Girlfriends), Paula Jai Parker (Friday, The Proud Family), Countess Vaughn (The Parkers, Moesha), Lisa Wu (Real Housewives of Atlanta) and now, Malika Haqq (ATL, Keeping Up With The Kardashians). This reality series highlights the ups and downs of black actresses trying to navigate career, family and relationships, while attempting to stay relevant in an unpredictable entertainment industry known for overlooking black talent. In an effort to stay relevant, these forgotten stars decide to think outside the box, by banding together and to take matters into their own hands. They have created their own short film and will hopefully stage their own comeback.

This summer, TV One's hit series is back for a third season and added to the equation is, Malika Haqq, who is best known for her breakout role in 'ATL'. Viewers and fans will be able to follow along as Haqq returns to the acting world in hopes of taking over Hollywood in a major way.

In a recent interview, Executive Producer, Carlos King mentioned that this season is his favorite and that Haqq brought a very fresh perspective to 'Young, Black Hollywood'.

"Season three is by far my favorite season because we are getting back to our roots in terms of really diving into the world of acting. The girls have amazing, individual success, and you will see the journey that each girl embarks on. We have a new 'diva', Malika Haqq who has joined the cast and she has brought a very fresh perspective to what it is like to be involved in what we like to call, 'Young, Black Hollywood'. So, we get to see her journey from where she started off with the movie 'ATL' and what she has done since then. We get to see the journey that she has been on and how she integrates with the cast. This season has tons of highs, some lows, and of course some drama. But, this season has definitely been the best so far, because we are tackling issues that are definitely prevalent in Hollywood from the various cast members," said King.

For Haqq, joining the show was "worth it." One of her most challenging moves to date has been stepping out of her comfort zone. She even admits that being around the Hollywood Divas has helped her grow in many ways.

"As apprehensive or scared that I have been to really move out and do things on my own as far as not having my twin sister as my security blanket or my best friend; it has been so worth it. I keep giving the credit to Carlos because sometimes, it takes people to see things in you that you do not see in yourself. I desire to see how far I can go," said Haqq. She continued, "I am still in the beginning stages of growing confidently within myself and knowing that I can do it. I have been surrounded by a bunch of women, meaning, the Hollywood Divas that have proven that regardless of where your career has started, or whatever bumps you have gone through on the road, if you just don't quit, your talent doesn't leave you. You just change your mind and get back out there. They did that for me. They may not know it, but being around an environment full of women that has made that mark has helped. I kind of backed out and stayed in the reality space, because it was safe for me. This season for me was getting to know a group of women that are a lot more seasoned and mature than I am, A) in life and B) doing what we all love, which is our craft. I have to say, it was a really great experience and I think that the audience is going to get a lot out of what we bring on season three of 'Hollywood Divas.'"

'Hollywood Divas' is all about showing accomplished women in their own right and premieres following the holiday weekend on Wednesday, July 6 at 9pm ET / 8pm CT on TV One.
