An Evening of Music and Spoken Word
Poetry is defined as literary work in which special intensity is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm. Poetry stirs up emotion and elevated thoughts. Simply put, poetry is art.
Lexus and TV One joined forces and represented poetry for a one-night lyrical event with a special presentation of the NAACP-nominated variety show 'Lexus Verses and Flow', airing tonight, Wednesday, October 26 at 11 pm ET. Dondré T. Whitfield (Queen Sugar, The Cosby Show, Another World, All My Children) hosts the special evening that blends music performances by chart-topping artists with spoken word presentations from top slam poetry artists.
As a first time host of the memorable evening that featured music and spoken word, Whitfield said, “I am honored to be the host of this show."
"This show is a great way to be able to be a part of the landscape of conversation that comes about what is happening socially in our country. It is a really positive way to be a part of that. This is just going to be a lot of fun mixed in with some great commentary about what is going on socially in our society," he said.
Now six seasons strong, 'Lexus Verses and Flow' has presented harmonious nights of music and spoken word. This one-night special presentation delivers Grammy Award-Winning singers Joe, and Lloyd, marking his return with single "Tru," and up-and-coming soul singers, including Lion Babe, Ro James, Dreezy and Kevin Ross, who share the stage with 13 of the biggest names in poetry. This electrifying evening ranges from thought-provoking to sensual to comedic, delivering 90-minutes of pure entertainment.
Singer-songwriter,Ro James said that being able to express his artistic style on the same stage as Joe, " is a crazy experience."
"This is a crazy experience because this is my first time meeting Joe but I use to listen to his music growing up. It is kind of dope for me to be in this place; it is a blessing to be here, and I am excited," said James.
